Your diet will determine your destiny. I have been pondering this statement for days.
Diet is the sum of your choices concerning what you consume. What you consume has a direct effect on the quality of life you live; both physically and spiritually. Your choices, decisions, actions, what you consume will ultimately determine your destiny.
Where you are NOW is a result of what your diet was and continues to be. So with that in mind what is your diet today?
Physical Application
You realise that life is full of choices and you are where you are because of the choices YOU have made. If you chose to eat the wrong stuff your body reacts and you don’t get the results you want. You get the results you deserve. Your decisions determine your physical progress.
I am where I am because of my choices, decisions & actions in the physical realm.
I sit here thinking about this as I embark on a diet that will change me if I make the right consumption choices every meal of the day. The issue for me is diet.
If I want to arrive at a different destination my diet has to change. In the physical sense this means restricting the foods that will impact my health. Bread, sugar, sweets, processed foods. It means reaching for life-giving foods that God has given us to eat.
But, as anyone who has struggled with their weight and diet you know this is completely a mind battle. Every single decision matters, every single meal (and even in between meals!)
Your diet is determined in your mind before it is consumed. That is why your diet in the physical is all about mindset.
Spiritual Application
What is your mindset when it comes to diet? Our mindset is our thoughts which turn into actions and our decisions which need to be given to God. Our spiritual diet is the sum of these thoughts, beliefs and actions. A healthy mindset says, I need to acknowledge “Lord, my thoughts have been wrong in this area of my life. The diet I am on is not producing the fruit or results that are pleasing to YOU.”
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
We fight in the spiritual for results in the physical.
A healthy spiritual diet always begins with the Word of God because it brings clarity on what is an issue of the spirit and what is an issue of the soul. We meditate and feed on God’s word. We consume is God’s word.
When we read His word God gets straight to the issue. He sees the battle with the SOUL – food, weight, mindset and he puts it on one side. On the other side He puts the things of the Spirit, which gives us life. He looks at the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
How amazing is that? His word separates the SOUL & SPIRIT.
When we read God’s word He brings CLARITY and not confusion to your life. When we don’t know what is happening or we need direction we come to Him. It is Him who can reveal the exact thoughts and attitudes of the heart that need to change in order for us to come into the life of the Spirit.
There is so much wisdom in this one verse! He knows that your thoughts and attitudes of the heart EFFECT your soul and spirit.
How do we change these thoughts and attitudes? We need to CHANGE what we consume; our diet.We need to humbly allow God to come and do the work He has to do, and we do this through a diet of the Word of God.
The Bread of Life
Isn’t the Lord kind? One of the first things to go on my new eating lifestyle is bread. But God…..
Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. John 6:35
He says I know you desire bread but don’t look to natural bread, too much of that is not good for you! But come and eat all the bread you like in ME. Because when you do you will never be hungry!
Jesus is so kind He knows our struggles! When our DIET is HIM, hunger isn’t an issue. Without Him we can do nothing but with Him we can do all things. Change your diet and you can change your life.
You won’t see results straight away. We all have a different starting point and different battles of the soul to overcome. But we can all start today by coming to Jesus daily for bread. Bread sustains you. He will sustain you. He will gently help you in your struggles. Make one good decision after the other; this is what success is.
Think of each decision as a seed you get to sow. When you are sowing your seed you actually have your DESTINY in your hands. Something so small is your destiny!
This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live. Deuteronomy 30:19
For My Kids
Don’t be fooled your decisions will effect your children. Your example to your children will ultimately become their diet. They will learn what to eat from you. This not only applies to their physical but also their spiritual.
What fruit is evident in your child’s life? Now consider what their diet is and think about that. What do they need more of, to separate the SOUL & SPIRIT?
Do we demonstrate coming to Jesus and reading God’s word? Are we filled by Him so our children are never hungry and thirsty. If we do, they will know that when their diet is Jesus their destiny is certain.
My diet will effect the destiny of my children.
Your diet determines your destiny…..simple yet profound.
I have found these thoughts sobering & confronting on so many levels. But I know God’s grace is sufficient for me to change and become more like Jesus in my attitudes and thoughts, my physical and spiritual diet. We can’t do it alone, but through the power Holy Spirit and spurring one another on to greatness in His Kingdom.
